In case your wall has a hole that is as big as a door handle, then fixing it won’t be much of a hassle. The first thing you need to do is cut out the fragments that are dangling on the wall. Do this using a drywall saw and a utility knife. Begin carving away at the back side of the drywall piece until it fits the opening well and the paper is left. This piece is referred to as the patch hat. Now add the drywall mud on the edges of the patch hat and put it in the hole. Once it’s been set in its proper place, add a coat of mud over the patch and leave it to dry. Once it had dried completely, take out any chunks and sand it until it becomes smooth. Add mud again and let it dry. Repeat the process until the patch is smooth and nice and ready to be repainted. You will be doing the same thing. One thing that you’ll do differently is to cut out the entire whole. Use your drywall saw and cut up until you hit a stud. Create two marks and then snap a line or using a flat edge, create a line through the two marks, which will be the line that you need to cut. Grab the saw and cut to the stud on the other side of the hole. Measure from the exact same area that you did for the other mark and then add ¾ of an inch to it and it will give you half on the other stud. Create two marks and then draw a line. Use the line to create a square line at the bottom and top of the hole. You need to have a square hole. Now, you have to cut out the portion that you have marked. Be sure to measure the hole that you have and then cut a piece that will fit into it. After cutting, place the piece in the hole and then use drywall nails to nail two edges where the studs are.
